SILICONE ISN'T PAINT. YOUR RIG CAN'T BE EITHER.
High-solids, moisture-cure silicone roof coating contains 95%+ solids content — far thicker and more viscous than acrylics or elastomerics. It won't atomize properly below 5,500 PSI. It cures on contact with atmospheric moisture, meaning your hose, gun, and fittings must be moisture-free at all times.
Standard pickup tubes won't feed it from a drum. A repurposed paint sprayer won't generate the pressure to atomize it. This chemistry requires purpose-built equipment — and this guide tells you exactly what that means.
Never share hose, gun, or fittings between silicone and acrylic materials. Even trace amounts of acrylic contamination in a silicone line will cause premature curing and equipment failure. Silicone lines must be purged with silicone-compatible thinner only — never water. Label your hoses and keep them physically separate.
THE THREE NON-NEGOTIABLE EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
High-solids silicone requires a minimum of 5,500 PSI working pressure at the gun tip for proper atomization. Most manufacturers specify 6,000–7,250 PSI. An underpowered sprayer will not atomize the material — it will stripe, run, and produce uneven mil thickness. Do not attempt to compensate with a larger tip.
Silicone will not self-feed through a standard pickup tube from a 55-gallon drum. A 5:1 transfer pump — air-driven, 20 CFM compressor minimum — pushes material consistently from drum to sprayer. Without it, you get starvation, pressure drop, and inconsistent coverage. This is not optional for production drum work.
Silicone cures by absorbing atmospheric moisture. Standard hose allows moisture infiltration through the wall. Use only moisture-resistant jacketed hose — 3/4" ID minimum, rated for 7,250 PSI. A 50-ft 1/2" whip hose at the gun end is standard practice for control and reduced operator fatigue.
| Recommended Tip Size | .029 – .035 (standard high-solids silicone application) |
| Gun | Graco XHF — engineered for high-solids, solvent-based, high-pressure materials |
| Tip Extension | 20" gun extension standard — keeps operator back from overspray zone on rooftop |
| Pressure at Tip | Minimum 5,500 PSI · Typical operating range 6,000–7,250 PSI |
| Main Hose | 3/4" moisture-resistant jacketed · 250–300 ft for roof work from ground level |
| Whip Hose | 50 ft, 1/2" ID at gun end — improves maneuverability and reduces fatigue |
| Do Not Thin | Never add thinner of any kind. Thinning disrupts cure chemistry and voids manufacturer warranties. |
Graco GH 933 Big Rig
Gas Hydraulic Silicone Roofing System
For 30 years, the Graco GH line has been the go-to for contractors who need maximum pressure for hard-to-atomize materials. The 933 hits the 7,250 PSI ceiling that high-solids silicone demands, while the QuikChange pump lower system means you can swap to a high-flow lower for acrylic work — one rig, full-spectrum roofing capability.

Titan Hydra X 7230
HIGH-PRESSURE SILICONE ROOFING SPRAYER
The Hydra X represents a fundamental engineering departure from clutch-based hydraulic systems. HydraStroke Technology uses electronically controlled hydraulics with a single moving part — delivering consistent output under load all day without the heat and clutch wear that shortens service life of traditional hydraulic machines under high-viscosity silicone loads.
| Max Pressure | 7,250 PSI |
| Multi-Gun Capability | Up to 5 guns simultaneously |
| Drive System | HydraStroke — electronically controlled hydraulics, single moving part |
| Fluid Section | Severe Service — 5" slow-stroke piston, Tri-chrome corrosion + abrasion treatment |
| Drum Handling | Electric AutoLift system — raises and lowers fluid section at the press of a button |
| Dual-Mode | Switchable to 4540 fluid section (4.0 GPM) for high-volume acrylic production work |
| Cooling | Dual-fan system, optimized for continuous all-day operation |
| Frame | Heavy-duty steel, 12" pneumatic tires |
Traditional hydraulic systems burn out clutches under continuous silicone loads. HydraStroke's single moving part reduces heat, extends service life, and delivers consistent flow rate throughout the day — even when material viscosity changes with temperature.
Press a button — the fluid section raises or lowers automatically. No manual lifting, no dedicated crew member managing the immersion pump. On a full production day with multiple drum changes, this adds up to measurable time savings.
The Hydra X's modular fluid-section design means you don't need separate rigs for silicone and acrylic work. The 7230 section handles silicone at 7,250 PSI. Swap in the 4540 section for high-production acrylic at 4.0 GPM. Trail Sprayer can configure the system for your material mix and carries fluid section kits in stock.
